DETROIT INFORMATION

When Berry Gordy Jr. built a studio in this famous "Motor City" and put a sign on his new company, entitled "Hitsville USA", an entire new genre of music was born. The sound of Motown. Creating household names such as Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and The Supremes. Since its heyday in the 50s and 60s, Detroit has been through some tough times. But things are currently on a real upswing, a perfect time to catch the city. Check out Greektown, packed with all things Mediterranean and the theatre district for upmarket bars and restaurants. The suburbs are also good for clubs and bars. See Ann Arbor, Pontiac, Royal Oak and Birmingham for the best. On the tourist front, catch the Detroit Institute of Art or the Henry Ford museum.
