Located along the Mississippi River,
Memphis is the largest city in the State of Tennessee and the 17th
largest city in the country. It was found in 1820 and named
after the ancient capital of Egypt. The city grew over time because
of its river trade and railroad connections. Memphis has become
famous for its African American music that includes gospel, jazz and
blues. It is also known for its food, most notably, Memphis
barbeque. Every May, the city host the World Championship Barbeque
Cooking Contest. The FedEx Corporation and Autozone have their
headquarters in the city. Memphis is home to one professional sports
franchise, the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies that play at the FedEx Forum.
