OKLAHOMA CITY
INFORMATION |
 |
Located in the heartland of America,
Oklahoma City is the capital city of the Sooner State, Oklahoma. The
city was settled in 1889 and by 1907 Oklahoma City became the
capital of the state. It grew in part because of the discovery of
oil within the city in the 1930s. Oklahoma City experienced a
decline in population throughout the 1970s and 80s but the downtown
area has been redeveloped to include numerous entertainment and
culture options for its citizens. Oklahoma is known for its
collegiate sports programs, especially football, that includes the
University of Oklahoma Sooners and the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
Professional sports makes its debut in the state and in Oklahoma
City this fall as the NBA's Thunder plays at the Ford Center after
moving from Seattle.
