Located in Southwest Virginia, the Town of Blacksburg is home to
Virginia Tech (Virginia Polytechnic and State University). Virginia Tech, a land grant university
was found in 1872 and makes up a large part of the
town's population. It encompasses 2,600 acres and has a student body
of over 26,000. Virginia Tech offers 60 bachelor degree programs and
120 Masters and Doctoral programs. Burnt
orange and Chicago maroon are the school colors, and the Hokie Bird,
a turkey like creature is the mascot. The sports programs at
Virginia Tech are very successful. Virginia Tech is a Division I
school and part of the ACC Conference. The football program plays at
Lane Stadium and both the men's and women's basketball teams play at
Cassel Coliseum. The closest city to Blacksburg is Roanoke,
approximately 40 miles Northeast.
