Ohio State University, OSU, is located
in the largest city and the capital city of Ohio, Columbus. The city
was found in 1812 and was named for explorer Christopher Columbus.
OSU was established in 1870 and is the largest university in the
nation. It is a land and sea grant university with a student body of
over 60,000. The main 1,700 acre is located directly north of
downtown Columbus. The school is nicknamed the Buckeyes with school
colors of scarlet and gray. There are 19 men's and 20 women's
varsity teams that participate in the Big Ten Conference. The
football team plays at Ohio Stadium, nicknamed "the Horseshoe" and
is one of the largest stadiums in college football with a seating
capacity of over 101,000.
