Known as the Queen City of the south,
Charlotte is the largest city in North Carolina and the 20th largest
city in the United States. It is one of the fastest growing cities
in the country. The city was named for Charlotte of Mecklenburg
Stretlitz, wife of Britain's King George III. Charlotte has the
second largest banking headquarters in the United States as it is
the home of Bank of America and Wachovia banks. Two professional
sports franchises call the city home, the Carolina Panthers and the
Charlotte Bobcats. Bank of America Stadium, home of the Panthers and
Charlotte Bobcats Arena, home of the Bobcats are both located in
downtown Charlotte. NASCAR's main offices and many racing team's
headquarters are located around the city.
