JACKSONVILLE INFORMATION

Located along the St. Johns River, Jacksonville was found in 1822. Named after the seventh President of the United States, Andrew Jackson, Jacksonville is the largest city in the State of Florida. The city has the largest deepwater port in the south as many goods are shipped from here each year. Financing, biomedical technology, consumer goods and manufacturing are the main areas of employment. Several companies including the CSX Corporation and the Mayo Clinic are headquartered in Jacksonville. Although the city has a large population, it has only one professional team, the NFL's Jacksonville Jaguars, who play at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium. Several other minor league teams from all sports call the city home.
