NEW ORLEANS
INFORMATION |
 |
Found in 1717 by the French, New Orleans
is one of the oldest cities in the United States. Located in the
Mississippi River Delta, New Orleans is the largest city in the
State of Louisiana. The city is known as the birthplace of jazz, for
its food and music, and the annual Mardi Gras. Because of its
location in the Mississippi River Delta, New Orleans is one of the
busiest and largest ports in the world. Most of the country's
refining and production of petroleum occurs here. Much of the area
was devastated by Hurricane Katrina in August 2005, but much of the
downtown area has been restored. New Orleans is the home to two
professional franchises, the Hornets (NBA) and the Saints (NFL) who
play at the Louisiana Superdome.
